The city of Southington is centrally located in Hartford County, Connecticut between the peaks of Ragged Mountain and Mount Southington. Situated on the banks of the Quinnipiac River along Interstates 84 an 691, Southington is located twenty miles southwest of Hartford and within one hundred miles of the major metropolitan areas of Boston and New York City. Formally established in 1779, Southington is presently home to a population of approximately 42,000 residents who enjoy the beautiful seasonal weather that brings hot, humid summers and cold, snowy New England winters to the area.

Opportunities for outdoor recreation and leisure abound in and around the city of Southington! The Mount Southington Ski Area is popular with snow skiers and snow boarders, drawing thousands of visitors each year with its fifty-plus acres of terrain that can accommodate all skiing styles and abilities. The Metacomet Trail is a popular destination for hikers and features sixty-two miles of trails that traverse the Metacomet Ridge of central Connecticut through woodlands, swamps, lakes, and marshes with dramatic scenic views of waterfalls and cliff faces. Golfers can hit the links at any of several area golf courses that include the Pine Valley Golf Course, Southington Country Club, and Hawks Landing.

The city of Southington loves to celebrate and they do it in style with their annual Apple Harvest Festival held each October on the Town Green. This family and community-oriented event features six days of non-stop fun with live entertainment, carnival rides, the Apple Harvest parade, local arts and crafts shows, pie-eating contests, and more!

Southington's historical and cultural heritage is well documented by the Southington Historical Society through collections and exhibits housed within their museum located in the old library on Main Street, and through projects located throughout the community that include the restored 19th century South End Schoolhouse. Other historic sites of note include theMarion Historic District, listed on the National Register of Historic Places that consists of a collection of architecturally significant buildings from the 18th, 19th and early 20th centuries that reflect the historical development of the community of Southington.
