The city of Plainville is located in Hartford County, Connecticut approximately thirteen miles southwest of Hartford. Settled in 1657, Plainville was initially a part of the city of Farmington, becoming incorporated as a separate town in July of 1869. Today, Plainville is home to approximately 18,000 residents who enjoy the hot, humid summers and snowy New England winters afforded by the city's location within the humid continental climate zone.

Thanks to the efforts of dedicated service organizations, strong community leadership, and an active and involved citizenry, there is never a dull moment in the city of Plainville! The Plainville Parks and Recreation Department provides a variety of year-round recreational programs for residents of all ages, as well as special events that include the annual Halloween Parade and Fun Day. The department maintains and operates a number of parks and recreation facilities, including theTomasso Nature Park, an eleven-acre expanse of wetlands that is home to a variety of plant and animal life that includes the eastern painted turtle, common snapping turtle, bullfrog, great blue heron, red winged blackbird, mallard duck, whitetail deer, and muskrat.

Plainville boasts one of the most remarkable small-town museums in the nation. Located in the circa 1890 former Town Hall, the Plainville Historic Center is filled to the brim with papers, manuscripts, artifacts, and other assorted memorabilia relative to the history of the city, and contains exhibits and collections specifically dedicated to toys, tools, costumes, clocks, and more.

The annual Hot Air Balloon Festival, sponsored by the Plainville Fire Department, is the highlight of the year! One of the northeast's largest balloon festivals, it features three days of fun and entertainment held during the last weekend of August that includes a car show, fireworks display, arts and crafts show, and more.
